Firefly is a 1981 38’ Gulfstar motor cruiser built for the cruiser community in mind. She has two staterooms, two heads, great galley, salon, wetbar, covered deck and flybridge. Twin 115hp Perkins turbo-diesel engines give you 8 knots cruise and 11 knots if you need it. Two gallons per hour make her fuel efficient enough to get 1000 miles out of 250 gallons of fuel and Caribbean capable.
Built for offshore comfort, she comes with a generator, 2 large air conditioning units and 340 gallons of fresh water to keep mama happy.
Aft and forward state rooms with private heads are more than comfortable. Even have a bathtub in the captains quarters to wash up the grandkids.
The salon also has the lower helm for foul weather but I prefer the flybridge for most piloting.
The galley and dinette area are functional and provide enough storage for extended stays.
For hanging out and happy hour the saloon and covered back deck are perfect.
The Name - Firefly - Yes, its a bit simple but then so was the show. I would have used "Serenity" but man, there are a LOT of those out there, about three thousand according to the USCG.. No, Firefly is close enough. Its the connection to Mal, Zoe, Wash, Jayne and Kaylee that make it work. A spaceship of individuals drawn together by the desire to not be under the thumb of a Government gone wild. I can relate. If you can fly a spaceship while cattle rustling. I can relate. If space monkeys are real. I can relate. How the network can cancel a show as brilliant as "Firefly" and leave on some of the crap on TV today, just boggles the mind. Anyway, Firefly is my ship that will, if only for a while, release me from the bonds of oppression and inequality that can only be known by a middle+ aged white man in the United States of America of 2019.
